Velvety Buffalo Milk Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream

Updated: Apr 27

There’s hot chocolate… and then there’s buffalo milk hot chocolate.

The cold weather has crept in, and there’s no better time for a rich, velvety Buffalo Milk Hot Chocolate topped with whipped cream!

Because buffalo milk naturally has a higher fat content and a beautiful, round flavour, it creates a hot chocolate that’s fuller, silkier and more satisfying than anything made with regular milk. Add some whipped cream on top and dust with cocoa for an extra decadent finish.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 cups Quindanning Buffalo Milk

  • 2 tbsp good‑quality cocoa powder

  • 2 tbsp sugar (or to taste)

  • 50g dark chocolate, chopped (optional but amazing)

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

For the whipped cream:

  • ½ cup thickened cream

  • 1 tsp sugar or honey

  • Splash of vanilla

Method

  1. Warm the buffalo milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming (don’t boil).

  2. Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, and chopped chocolate until smooth and glossy.

  3. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt to bring out the richness.

  4. While the hot chocolate warms, whip the cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

  5. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, top generously with whipped cream, and finish with a dusting of cocoa or shaved chocolate.

Serving ideas

  • Add a spoonful of hazelnut spread for a Nutella‑style version

  • Stir through a pinch of cinnamon or chilli for warmth

  • Top with marshmallows for kids (or adults who act like kids)

  • Serve with biscotti or a handful of chocolates
